If you’re a theatre-goer, you’ll love Blackpool’s beautiful Grand Theatre, a stunning Victorian building designed by renowned architect Frank Matcham. There’s an action-packed year-round programme of live theatre from ballet, opera and plays to comedy, musicals, contemporary dance and loads of fun shows for the entire family.
There’s always something to see at the stunning Winter Gardens – home of the 2009 Royal Variety Performance – built in 1878, this palace of entertainment is rich with history and houses a complex of theatres and show venues, including the opulent Empress Ballroom, and the recently refurbished Floral Hall.
Every year, the Fylde Coast plays hosts to both UK stars and international artists, with the Blackpool Illuminations Switch On show and the Lytham Festival, which is now Lancashire’s largest live music event, attracting tens of thousands of spectators.

Everybody knows there’s no better place to be than beside the sea. We’re very lucky in Blackpool to be surrounded by miles of golden sand, enjoyed by locals and visitors alike.
Taking a dip in the sea, walking the dog along the beach and enjoying a picnic on the sand dunes, are just some of the wonderful things we’re able to do living on the Fylde Coast. Sometimes, if we’re lucky, we can even bask in the sunshine with a spot of beachfront afternoon tea!
On the Fylde Coast, we all like to do our bit to help keep our beaches safe and pleasant, with locals taking part in regular beach-cleaning events. There are four stretches of the Blackpool coast that are designated bathing waters, and eight across the Fylde coast.
In 2015, all four of Blackpool’s bathing waters passed the new European Directive, with Blackpool South being classed as ‘excellent.’
The Great Outdoors
There are many things that make the Lake District the UK’s most popular national park; beautiful landscapes, spectacular scenery, fascinating wildlife, exciting and challenging trails, numerous sparkling lakes and rivers, the list goes on.
It’s all easily accessible from the Fylde Coast, by car or train, in just over an hour. Join onto one of the many organised walks to scale elevations such as England’s highest mountain Scafell Pike or explore everything the Lakes has to offer at your own leisure and pace.
You can similarly take to the great outdoors within Lancashire in the picturesque country park of Beacon Fell, or on bicycle or foot through the Trough of Bowland valley and high pass.
Following your walking, hiking, rambling, hillwalking or cycling, make sure that you call into one of the many country pubs you’ll come across where you can enjoy hearty food and drink in the cosiest of surroundings.
