What does it take to be a Social Worker – well its not for everyone as you’ll be dealing with the most vulnerable in society and dealing with situations that may cause you emotional distress.  You’ll need tact, patience and understanding and the ability to assess situations in a sensitive and non-judgemental way.   Its not a  9-5 job and you’ll have to keep on top of your case notes as they could be used in Court proceedings so IT skills are a must too.

You’ll need to gain a professional social work qualification approved by Social Work England and pass background checks by the Disclosure and Barring Service.

Now that you’ve considered everything and think this is the career choice for you, why come to Bolton?   Well, we’re committed to attracting, retaining and developing a diverse and skilled workforce to support adults, children, young people and their families.

Our commitment to you is a competitive package, outstanding support from experienced managers, a manageable workload, high quality training and the opportunity to build on your strengths.  We have a robust supervision process which will ensure you receive good quality, supportive and reflective direction enabling your continuous development and improvement in the role.

We offer a newly qualified Social Work programme that offers a supported and assessed year in practice that links to accredited academic modules and the opportunity to access post qualifying awards across adults and children’s social care disciplines.

Our training options are second to none, ranging from in-house E-learning, bespoke specialism training and opportunities to access workshops, seminars and lectures delivered by the University of Central Lancashire under the “Making Research Count” programme.

Being part of the Bolton Family is an exciting development opportunity; Bolton is an aspiring, thriving, diverse town which you can contribute to by improving outcomes for the most vulnerable.

Don’t aspire to be better than somebody else, be the best you can be and Bolton will provide the platform to get you there – consider a career in Social Work at Bolton Council and be something greater.
