Merseyside is a vibrant metropolitan county in North West England with a population of over 1.3 million people.

Outdoor Spaces in Merseyside

Did you know that Merseyside has more parks than Paris? Liverpool’s Sefton Park is the largest Grade I listed park in the UK with 200 acres of beautiful parkland to explore. You'll find botanic Gardens in Southport and Wirral, a Red Squirrel Reserve in Formby and miles of stunning coastline to explore!

Heritage and History

Merseyside has a number of museums and galleries across the region for all the family to enjoy! Whether you’re into maritime, the world and its creatures, art, or even if you want to deep sea dive into the history of Liverpool City Region you can at the Maritime Museum, World Museum, Lady Lever Art Gallery or the Museum of Liverpool. 

You can also experience the breath-taking architecture that Liverpool and Merseyside has to offer on a tour bus or a walking tour.

Food and Drink

The food and drink scene in Merseyside is thriving and can be enjoyed in many areas across the region. Liverpool Waterfront hosts the Bordeaux Wine Festival every year, while Duke Street Market houses some of the finest small plate restaurants.

Sporting Heritage

Merseyside really does have a fantastic sporting heritage! Liverpool City Region is home to three historic football clubs. Everton and Liverpool are separated by just one mile and Wirral’s Tranmere Rovers play at Prenton Park in Birkenhead, so you won't struggle to find exciting football action every week of the season.

The region is also home to England’s Golf Coast, the finest stretch of championship golf in the world, with three Royal Links courses which have hosted endless Open Championships and Ryder Cups. These include Royal Birkdale in Southport, Royal Liverpool at Hoylake and Wallasey Golf Club, Home of Stableford, in Wirral.

Liverpool's M&S Bank Arena also hosts large-scale sporting events such as boxing and gymnastics!

In Merseyside you'll also find Aintree and Haydock racecourses which offer top-quality racing including the world-famous Grand National Festival at Aintree each spring.

Liverpool is also close to a number of top rugby teams, including St Helens (Saints) - the most successful Rugby League club of the Super League era!

Shopping

If you enjoy shopping you’ll love Merseyside - you'll be spoilt for choice between gleaming city-centre shopping centres, boutique arcades, bohemian streets and farmers markets.

Liverpool ONE is an open-air shopping district that is home to more than 170 stores, bars and restaurants, including high street and designer favourites and the only Beauty Bazaar Harvey Nichols in the country! In the exclusive Metquarter, you can find select fashion and beauty outlets such as, Hugo Boss, MAC, Kurt Geirger and Kids Cavern.

Merseyside is also home to Lord Street in Southport, an elegant parade of Victorian arcades with a whole range of shops and West Kirby in Wirral is great for boutique shopping, or the farmers’ markets and farm shops for delicious local produce!
