Social care in the public sector really is rewarding. Brigitte Thornton currently works at Blackpool Council as an Administrative Team Manager, leading a team who work closely with other departments handling personal information with discretion and professionalism.
We asked Brigitte a number of questions to provide an overview of her social care journey so far...
I've always wanted a role where I can contribute to making a real difference to those that social care supports from children, young people and adults, as not everyone has the best start in life.
My role gives me exactly that and I feel rewarded and appreciated on a daily basis!
In my role I'm often required to think on my feet to ensure our team is running smoothly and make sure our social care teams are fully supported so they can carry out their roles effectively. During my time in social care I have developed the ability to adapt quickly to new challenges, as no two days are the same!
Challenging, fast-paced and rewarding!
I am extremely proud of the contribution I make in ensuring that children within our care are kept safe. My team help social workers and managers with their administrative tasks, so that they can focus on safeguarding children and ensuring the best possible outcomes.
Yes definitely! If you're hardworking, a team player and want to make a difference then a career in social care is for you!
There is nothing better than going home at the end of the working day knowing you have contributed to improving the lives of children and young people - it really is rewarding.
