Passenger Assistants

Salford City Council

Salford City Council, Children’s Services

Casual Passenger Assistant
Grade: 1C, £12.73 per hour
Working Hours:  15 per week (3 hours per day, Monday to Friday)
Contract Type:  Casual
Closing Date: No deadline for this role

We are looking to recruit casual passenger assistants to join our team. You’ll be responsible for escorting students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) from their homes to school or college. You will be responsible for ensuring their care, comfort and safety on the vehicle. The role involves working across a variety of routes which may differ from day to day. This is a challenging role but one that is highly rewarding and fun.

You will be required to be available for work before and after school, on a casual basis, term time only. Casual staff are sometimes required at short notice, so it is essential for applicants to live in or near Salford as you will be required to make it to the Salford boundary, often early in the morning. The nature of the role allows flexibility to fit around your other commitments. Casual staff can progress to a permanent post as these become vacant, as permanent posts are filled by casual staff who wish to be considered.

Please be aware that this post is subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and that you will be required to meet the cost of the DBS check – currently £38.00. The payment for this will be deducted from your first four months’ salary payments at a rate of £9.50 per month. If you do not commence employment for any reason but the DBS has been processed, you will be sent an invoice for the payment of £38.00.

If you have lived or worked abroad for 3 months or more in the last 5 years or 12 months or more (whether continuously or in total) in the last 10 years whilst aged 18 or over, please refer to the link below for details for how to obtain your Certificates of Good Character. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/criminal-records-checks-for-overseas-applicants
