We are pleased to announce this fantastic opportunity to join Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service as a Volunteer Cadet Instructor.

The Volunteer Cadet Instructor role is responsible for the supporting the delivery of GMFRS Fire Cadet programme at 4 locations. These being Bolton, Eccles, Wythenshawe and Bury

ABOUT THE ROLE: 

We are recruiting new members to join our Fire Cadet scheme and become Volunteer Cadet Instructors. Who are making a difference to the communities they live in, through informative, educational, and practical supporting the learning and development of our cadets

By volunteering and sharing your time, knowledge and experience you will be helping communities across Greater Manchester, but you will also meet new people, develop new skills, improve your CV, boost your confidence, and improve your communication skills.

As a volunteer cadet instructor, you will support and help our cadets gain a qualification through classroom and practical activities. Supporting GMFRS values.

The role will require a minimum attendance of 2 sessions per calendar month, each lasting 3 hours taking place out of school hours. Alongside other activities that will take place over weekends for fundraising and attending community events.

ABOUT YOU: 

We welcome applications for this role from anyone who is 18+ years of age, has a passion for volunteering and is willing to learn and support our cadets.

Essential Criteria:

  • 18+ years of age
  • Passionate about volunteering and being apart of a diverse team  
  • Reliable, punctual, committed and able to follow direction
  • Willing and able to provide 6 hours volunteering or participate in a minimum of two sessions a month
  • Able to travel to locations one of the cadet locations
  • Confident in engaging and educating our cadets and presenting information
  • Able to communicate effectively with a range of people from different backgrounds and communities
  • Willing to attend training sessions to develop your role as a volunteer cadet instructor

Desirable:

  • Speaks any additional languages, including BSL
  • Holds a UK driving licence
  • Holds D1 (minibus driver) on licence

ABOUT THE RECRUITMENT PROCESS: 

You will complete a basic application form to submit your expression of interest in this role. From this, we will call you to discuss your skills, knowledge, experience and availability, to identify if you are an ideal candidate to volunteer for our GMFRS cadet program.

It is also within this initial call we will ask you for your location preference. For reference, the location days (2 calendar days per month) are listed below and the session timings for all are 16:30-19:30: 

Wythenshawe: Monday 
Bury: Tuesday 
Eccles: Wednesday 
Bolton: Thursday 

If suitable, we will invite you to a group assessment session, where we can learn more about you and you can demonstrate your ability to work with others and clearly communicate safety information and advice.

However, should you not be successful on this occasion for the cadet role, we are also pleased to be able to offer you other volunteer potions for GMFRS - such as the community and support volunteer.
